OER can help address diversity in the classroom by providing free, adaptable materials that reflect a wide range of cultures, identities, languages, and perspectives. Because OER can be revised and localized, teachers can tailor content to their students’ cultural backgrounds and learning needs, replace biased or limited examples, and include marginalized voices often absent from traditional textbooks. OER also promote equity by removing financial barriers to learning and improving accessibility through multiple formats such as audio, captions, and simplified texts. In addition, they support inclusive pedagogy by enabling differentiated instruction, encouraging student participation in content creation, and exposing learners to global perspectives, helping all students feel represented and valued in the learning process.
