3. General information and justification of the social network

Instagram is an online social media platform and a social network service used for photography and video sharing. This app was launched in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, however, now it is owned by Meta, the parent company of Facebook.

There are two main channels for posting on Instagram: into the user’s permanent feed or into their “Stories,” a special section where content remains posted for 24 hours before disappearing (although it can be specifically archived into the profile). It is also possible to go “live,” streaming video directly from a camera to the platform.

We chose this social network because most people know it for its accessibility and all the services it offersThereforeif we are to use any social network to help our students in their learning process, Instagram is the best one because of how easy it is to use and because it is well known among children.

4. Personal Opinion

Virtual learning communities are valuable because they expand access to education, encourage collaboration beyond physical boundaries, and allow learners to participate at their own pace while engaging in deeper, more reflective discussions; at the same time, they help create a sense of belonging and continuous support through shared digital spaces. However, their effectiveness depends on thoughtful design and active facilitation, since challenges like unequal digital literacy, potential feelings of isolation, and the need for strong moderation can affect participation and engagement. Overall, when well‑structured, virtual learning communities can significantly enhance motivation, inclusivity, and the overall learning experience.
